First journal entry ever! Since this is an art site, might as well write about my methods. Seems fitting enough. I noticed since I've went back and revamped my deviant art that the traffic to mine has been insane. Thank you all, first off. If you've visited my deviant page then you know that I don't stick to one style of drawing. I do American comic book style, manga style, realistic portrait style, cartoony, and some psychedelic in there as well. The reason for that is because I don't want to limit myself to just one style. I see that a lot in American comics especially. Like I see a Jim Lee piece, I know it's Jim Lee. I see a Liefeld or Todd MacFarlene piece, I know it's their's, and so on. Same thing with manga too and guys like Junji Ito and Akira Toriyama. They all have their own distinct style but a lot of others tend to try to emulate their style. Especially back in the 1990s for our comics. I learned from them in many ways. Like I get that what they do is the normal comic style, but I'd like to see them try to draw outside that box. I thought about that a lot growing up and reading comics. Then I remembered something that Bruce Lee said when he was talking about the philosophy behind Jeet Kun Do. This is the quote that stuck out to me:

"Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
― Bruce Lee

Basically what Bruce says is not to limit yourself to any one style or method of doing things. The philosophy of Jeet Kun Do can be applied to anything. Steve Jobs applied it to Apple and now we have the iPod, iPhone and tons of other stuff. I decided to apply it to my artwork and that's why you see many different styles on display. I tried to not limit myself to one particular style and I think it shows. So hopefully that gives some insight to artists out there or visitors to my deviant about my method, in case any were wondering. So til next time everyone, do as Bruce Lee says and, "Be like water, my friend."
